For more than a decade, I have participated in an important annual ritual. But this year, it was for the last time.

That ritual is the act of dropping my children off at school. In earlier years, it was by holding their hands and reassuring them that everything was going to be OK.

In recent years, it has been a little more reserved as we walk quickly toward their school, with them slightly or even very embarrassed that I am there.

My two daughters have already outgrown this ritual. This year, it was the turn of my youngest child, my son Malakye.

Suddenly, back-to-school means a lot more than the changing of seasons from summer to fall.

I tell the story – and what it might mean to you – in this short video, which I invite you to watch.

By Ian Ardill

I like to be proactive about things, but in this case, I am waiting until the last minute.

I am referring to the mortgage on my home. It is due in October. Waiting is the prudent thing to do, because I think that interest rates will continue to drop. In September, the Bank of Canada lowered them for the third consecutive month, which was good news.

“Should I be renewing my mortgage? What is a good rate? What is the outlook for interest rates?” These are the kinds of questions I am receiving from clients on a daily basis – and I am only too happy to provide advice customized to their unique situation (although I am not a mortgage broker, I do offer a point of view).

The good news is that the Canadian mortgage rate market is very competitive, putting downward pressure on prices. Dave McKay, the RBC CEO, recently described the Canadian banks as a “ruthless oligopoly,” and “ruthlessly competitive.” He also advised that the profitability of RBC’s mortgage business is just 1/3rd of what it used to be.

Even so, we must take a measured approach to making such important decisions, considering we are not in the driver’s seat when it comes to what the Bank of Canada, or the Big Banks, will ultimately do.

Want to talk about the optimal mortgage and interest strategy for you? Just drop me a line.

As Jason put it, “We have a view here that we are not necessarily going to be biggest, but we are going to be very disciplined. The most valuable asset we have is our return track record.

People are coming here for regular distributions – they want to know we are doing our job to protect capital, and that is evidenced by our long-term track record.”

It has now been seven years since I joined Ardill Group. It has been five since I started to take over the reins from my father, John. It has been four since we updated our messaging and website, anchored by our brand promise: Just the right match for your money®.

For some time now, the process of passing the business from my father to me has been complete. So, it is time to turn the page to a new chapter.

Don’t worry – we are still Just the right match for your money®! And it is still our core purpose to walk with our clients through their financial lives. Our brand foundation, of which those messages are a part, is not changing.

What IS changing is our focus on the Group part of our name. Our business isn’t just about me. It is about our incredible team – and it’s about our incredible clients.

What a privilege it is to serve clients who’ve been with us for decades, and welcome many new clients to the fold. What a blessing it is to learn from my dad and carry on his legacy. John will continue in his role as Founder and Mentor, acting as a rich source of wisdom for us all.

Stay tuned this fall as we unveil a fresh message, video, photography, website and design that turn the page to a very promising new future.

Growing up in Venezuela, Ana helped out at her father’s business – a driving school – answering the phone, doing invoicing and helping customers. She was 16. She hadn’t learned to drive yet, but she learned she had a strength for details – the kind of strength that soon landed her a job as a tax auditor with Radisson and, after graduation from university, with the Venezuelan government.

At the driving school, she also figured out that clients appreciated being appreciated. So, she started to call and text them proactively, and standardize customer service processes. All of this early background was a start down a road that eventually brought her to Canada, and to Ardill Group.

On our team, as Client Support Manager, she is our clients’ first point of contact, and also works to constantly improve the tools we have to delight clients at every touchpoint – as we walk with them through their financial lives.

As a great fan of the Ardill Group brand foundation, Ana is especially attached to this value: We make complex strategies easy to understand.

She loves it because demystifying complexities takes teamwork. Knowledge sharing. And sharing knowledge is where the power is. As Ana often says: “Each person is a slat of wood in a barrel, and we all have to grow tall together – or the water will flow out at the lowest point.” Or, as she puts it in Canadian terms: “Teamwork makes the dream work!”
Ana graduated early from high school and attended university at the National School of Public Treasury and Customs, where she studied fiscal science and majored in national taxes. She then completed a master’s in public sector management.

She is the youngest of seven children. She and her husband moved to Canada for a better life for their daughter. Constant improvement and growth are what it’s all about.

“Canada is a big change for us,” she acknowledges. “But we are in heaven.”

Welcome Ana!

PS here is Ana’s contact information:
